4 Aug – With Scarlett Johansson deciding to sue Disney over the issue of "Black Widow" release, all eyes are now on her Marvel co-stars, who have yet to speak up regarding the issue. It is noted that the actress has filed a lawsuit against Disney on 29 July, alleging a breach of contract with the hybrid release of the movie via theatres and Disney+ Premier Access. She claims that her salary was partly based on the film's box office performance, and that the studio had promised an exclusive theatrical release. Her action has sparked the wrath of Disney's top management but has recently won support of many fellow artistes. Among them include Alec Baldwin, who simply tweeted "Team Scarlett", as well as CAA Co-chairman Bryan Lourd and several women's group like Women in Film and Time's Up, who slammed Disney for their response to the lawsuit.
Despite all that, nothing was heard from those who worked closest to Johansson, including Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, and Robert Downey Jr. - the latter who instead focused on promoting his new Netflix show, "Sweet Tooth" on social media. It is noted that Downey previously was quick to express his public support for "Guardians of the Galaxy" star Chris Pratt, who was accused of following a church that is known for its hatred of the LGBT community. "What a world... The "sinless" are casting stones at my #brother, Chris Pratt... A real #Christian who lives by #principle, has never demonstrated anything but #positivity and #gratitude..." he wrote. "AND he just married into a family that makes space for civil discourse and (just plain fact) INSISTS on service as the highest value. If you take issue with Chris, I've got a novel idea. Delete your social media accounts, sit with your OWN defects of #character, work on THEM, then celebrate your humanness..." Mark Ruffalo also made no statement about the lawsuit, although the actor did congratulate Johansson a few weeks ago for the release of "Black Widow". On the other hand, Evans has not been on social media for the past month, with his last tweet published in early July.
