24 Mar – Knowing full well that there is no certainty when it comes to releasing movies in the times of the pandemic, Ryan Reynolds recently announced the new release date for his new movie, "Free Guy" in a way that only Ryan Reynolds can.

On 23 March, the actor posted a video of him on Instagram looking like your every day guy, and expressed, "Hey guys, awesome news. We have a new release date for Free Guy... what? That's great."

"I know we've had a couple of hiccups, but this time it's a hundred percent locked in. I've never been so sure of anything, in my entire life as long as I live," he added, not unsarcastically.

He then changed into another outfit and exclaimed, "The new release date is AUGUST 13. See you all in theatres AUGUST 13!". However, the word AUGUST 13 itself was a voice-over, to indicate that there is nothing certain about the new release date.

Fans and celebrities alike expressed their excitement over the new date, though Jennifer Garner decided on her own - lightheartedly, that is - that the movie will come out instead on 4 October.

It is noted that "Free Guy" was originally scheduled for a July 2020 release, but was pushed back to December 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 20th Century Studios again delayed the release soon after, giving it a May 2021 date instead.

It is now scheduled on 13 August. Tentatively, of course.

The upcoming movie, which is co-produced and stars Reynolds, will also be "Killing Eve" star Jodie Comer's first blockbuster. Other cast members include Joe Keery ("Stranger Things") and Taika Waititi ("Thor: Ragnarok"). It is helmed by Shawn Levy of "Night at the Museum" fame.

According to the premise, Guy (Reynolds) is a non-player character (NPC) working as a bank teller in an open world video game called Free City. But when programmers Milly (Comer) and Keys (Keery)'s program is inserted into Free City by the publisher Antoine (Waititi), Guy becomes aware that his world is a video game, and takes steps to make himself the hero; thus creating a race against time to save the game before the developers can shut it down.

Jodie Comer and Joe Keery also stars in the upcoming movie
