Sanjay Leela Bhansali to cast Deepika Padukone in "Baiju Bawra" remake

Let's do something fun
Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and actress Deepika Padukone have been long-time collaborators

26 May - There has been many reports about Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his many movie projects, but the most recent one is stating that he is going straight to "Baiju Bawra", with Deepika Padukone to star in it.

As reported on Pinkvilla, the filmmaker reportedly was very clear on his keenness in casting Deepika in the remake of the 1952 film, with the plan for the "Padmaavat" star to pay the role of dacoit queen Roopmati. The original character was played by Kuldip Kaur.

"Both Deepika and SLB have done multiple meetings to discuss the film and the character and the talks are in the advanced stage at the moment. The paperwork is yet to be done and things will be locked once both the stakeholders mutually agree on certain aspects," said one source. "Given the way things are proceeding at the moment, it's going to be a yes from DP."

Deepika was in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 2018's "Bajirao Mastani"

Deepika was also in SLB's "Ram Leela"

The said source added that Bhansali is planning to begin production by mid-2022.

It is noted that "Baiju Bawra" has been the director's dream project, which means that he will do all he can to have only the best to star in the movie.

Both Bhansali and Deepika have worked together in films like "Ram Leela" and "Bajirao Mastani".

The original 1952 film, that was set in the Mughal Emperor Akbar's court in India, revolves around the musician Baiju and his attempt to avenge his father's death, believing that a famed musician by the name of Tansen was the person responsible for the tragedy.

The original 1952 film starred Bharat Bhushan and Meena Kumari

Deepika's upcoming project will be the Indian adaptation of the 2015 Hollywood movie, "The Intern", opposite megastar Amitabh Bachchan, in the roles made famous by Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro. Filming is set to begin filming in November this year, and to be released sometime in 2022.
