Taika Waititi says "Star Wars" is currently in "story concept" stage

Hugh Jackman / Wolverine got the fans all excited for nothing
Don't expect movies to be too serious with Taika Waititi at the helm

13 Aug – Despite being busy with other projects that include his second "Thor" movie, New Zealander Taika Waititi assured that he has not forgotten his "Star Wars" project.

The director, who sat down for an interview with Wired recently, stated that the "Star Wars" feature film for Lucasfilm – a post-sequel trilogy movie he was tasked to helm last year - is very much in the plans, though it is still not much more than a story concept.

"It's still in the 'EXT. SPACE' stage. But we've got a story. I'm really excited by it because it feels very me," he said.

Asked if he's worried about mixing the serious universe of "Star Wars" with his humorous style, Waititi, who already revamped "Thor" from the serious Norse god of thunder to a relatable character in "Thor: Ragnarok", stated that he is not that worried.

"I tend to go down that little sincerity alleyway in my films," he said. "I like to fool the viewer into thinking 'ha it's this' and then [having them go], 'Damn it, you made me feel something!'"

On the other hand, fans of "Star Wars" who couldn't wait for another movie from the franchise would be happy to know that there are a slew of other projects aside from Waititi's, including the series, "Andor" and "Obi-Wan Kenobi" to be released on Disney+ next year.

Meanwhile, Waititi's "Thor: Love and Thunder" will be released next year.
