3 Sep – A new biopic about Whitney Houston is currently in the works on TriStar Pictures.

The movie, which is titled, "I Wanna Dance with Somebody", will be helmed by Kasi Lemmons ("Harriet"), replacing Stella Meghie, who left the project earlier due to creative differences.

The character of Houston will be played by British actress Naomi Ackie ("The End of the F***ing World"), who expressed, "Preparing to play Whitney Houston has been an incredible experience. I've learned so much more about her and myself than I could have imagined."

"I'm so excited to get on that film set and honour her legacy! With Kasi on board, I know we can create something truly wonderful."

Record producer Clive Davis also expressed happiness with Lemmons as the new director, stating, "Properly telling the honest, 'no-holds-barred' story of Whitney Houston is an exceptional responsibility. Kasi Lemmons not only brings a highly acclaimed, award-winning track record but possesses a clear understanding of Whitney as the matchless icon who triumphed musically while valiantly struggling with addiction."

The movie, written by Anthony McCarten ("Bohemian Rhapsody"), will revolve around Whitney Houston's emotional journey throughout her music career.
