Benedict Cumberbatch gets his Best Actor nom at the 94th Academy Awards

9 Feb – In a not-so surprising turn of events, the Benedict Cumberbatch-starrer, "The Power of the Dog" received the most nominations for this year's Academy Awards.

The movie, directed by revered New Zealand filmmaker Jane Campion, led the way with 12 nominations including Best Picture, Best Director and Screenwriter for Campion, as well as Best Actor in a Leading Role category for Cumberbatch himself.

Another two of its actors Kodi Smit-McPhee and Jesse Plemons are also nominated in the Supporting category, as well as Plemons' wife and actress Kirsten Dunst, who is nominated in the Actress in a Supporting Role category.

The movie will be facing competition in the Best Picture category in the likes of Kenneth Branagh's movie "Belfast", Sian Heder's "Coda", the Timothee Chalamet-starrer "Dune", Will Smith's the William sisters-related film, "King Richard", Guillermo del Toro's "Nightmare Alley", coming-of-age comedy-drama "Licorice Pizza", Adam McKay's "Don't Look Up", and Japan's award-winning film, "Drive My Car" - the latter is also nominated in the Best International Picture category.

"The Power of the Dog" is now streaming on Netflix.

The upcoming Oscars is set for 27 March at the Dolby Theatre, and will be telecast live on ABC.
