9 May – A spinoff of the hit movie, "Crazy Rich Asians" is currently in the works. According to Deadline, the upcoming project will be penned by "Barry" producer and writer Jason Kim, and will revolve around the relationship of Astrid and Charlie, the two characters played by Gemma Chan and Harry Shum Jr. The project is currently in early development. In the previous movie, Astrid reconnects with Charlie after finding out that her husband Michael, (played by Pierre Png) has been seeing a mistress.
The two characters were supposed to have a dance scene together in "Crazy Rich Asians" during Araminta and Colin's wedding, but the scene was cut, with Shum appearing in the mid-credits scene where he and Astrid reunited at the engagement party for protagonists Rachel and Nick. At the same time, the sequel of "Crazy Rich Asians" is also in the works. Both the spinoff and the sequel will be based on Kevin Kwan's second book in the trilogy, "China Rich Girlfriend".
