The fifth "Ghostbusters" is approved

27 Apr – It was only five months ago that the fourth "Ghostbusters" movie was released in cinemas, and now it has been revealed that Sony Pictures is saying yes to another film.

Sharing the good news during its panel at the Las Vegas' CinemaCon, the studio confirmed that it has greenlit a sequel to the 2021 movie, "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" - also making it the fifth "Ghostbusters" title in its roster.

It is noted that Paul Feig previously rebooted the said franchise in 2016 with an all-women cast, but it underperformed at the box office.

Soon after, Sony announced that Ivan Reitman, son of the original director Jason Reitman, was going to helm the fourth movie, which was then released in 2021.

With its return to its roots with the appearance of original stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ednie Hudson, Annie Potts and Sigourney Weaver alongside new cast that include Paul Rudd and Finn Wolfhard, the film made USD 129.4 million at the box office with a USD 75 million budget.
