15 Dec – After much speculations about his Superman comeback, Henry Cavill finally confirmed rumours that he will not be returning after all.

The actor shared the bad news on Instagram, saying that he was told by the studio to announce his return back in October, prior to the hiring of James Gunn and Peter Safran as co-CEOs of the new DC Studios.

"The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes," he wrote.

Cavill continued, "We can mourn for a bit, but we must remember... Superman is still around. Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there. My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will."

Rumours of Cavill's Superman project being cancelled sparked recently, after it was reported that Gunn and Safran want to depart from the Snyderverse.

Gunn also stated that he wants to focus on an earlier part of Superman's life, which means Cavill will be too old for the role. However, he stressed that the two have spoken and plan to work together in future projects.

Earlier, it was reported that the studio has decided not to go through with "Wonder Woman 3".
