21 Jul – After months of silence since its previous announcement, it was revealed that the fifth instalment of the horror franchise, "Insidious" will finally be released in July 2023. The movie was first announced back in 2020, with Patrick Wilson, who starred in the first two films, revealing that he will be helming the project. "I'm honoured and thrilled to be at the helm of the next Insidious installment, which will provide an amazing chance to unpack everything the Lamberts went through a decade ago, as well as deal with the consequences of their choices," said Wilson at the time. "Directing the movie is both professionally and personally a full-circle moment for me, and I am extremely grateful to be entrusted in continuing to tell this frightening and haunting story. Into The Further we go."
The first film, released in 2010 and directed by James Wan, was considered a breath of fresh air following long decade of similar approach to the Hollywood horror genre that turned horror fans to other markets like Japan and Thailand. Although the third and fourth movies decided to focus more on Lin Shaye's Elise Rainier character, Wilson previously stated that the fifth movie will return to the story of the Lambert family, with Dalton going to college. On the other hand, it is noted that the movie will be competing with many popular franchises in the July 2023 slot, including "Indiana Jones 5", "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One", "Barbie", and "The Marvels".
