31 Aug – Good things come in pairs, and for the second time in 2022, the highly anticipated Japanese Film Festival (JFF 2022) returns at participating GSC cinemas, bringing the best of Japanese cinema for all to enjoy on the big screen! Mr. Shimada Seiya, Director of The Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur (JFKL), in his welcome speech at the press conference held yesterday, is elated that the Festival is returning for the second time in physical form in 2022. Held in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the "Look East Policy" that was established in 1982, the JFF 2022 is the 18th edition of the annual celebration. It is noted that the JFF 2021 that was initially planned for a September 2021 launch was brought forward to January 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The JFF 2022 line-up consists of 12 titles from a variety of genres that include "Anime Supremacy!" – which will be the Opening Film which tells the story behind the anime industry. Malaysians will have the honour of watching "The Fish Tale" just a week after the movie's official 1st September release in its home country Japan.
With Cinema Online returning as the official online partner, JFF 2022 is set to kick off in early September in 3 cinemas in the Klang Valley before heading to Penang, Johor and East Malaysia. From 8 - 14 September, JFF 2022 will be held at GSC Mid Valley, GSC 1 Utama and GSC NU Sentral. It will then head north to GSC Gurney Plaza, Penang, from 15 - 18 September, before heading south to GSC Paradigm Mall JB, Johor Bahru, from 22 – 25 September. The film festival will wrap up in early October, following its 6 - 9 October simultaneous run at GSC CityONE Megamall and GSC The Spring in Kuching, and GSC Suria Sabah, Kota Kinabalu.
Tickets for JFF 2022 movies are priced at RM9.50 each (except "Just Remembering") via GSC channels. Ticket sales start one week before the first screening at each region. Sale for Klang Valley tickets will start this Thursday, 1st September. All films presented will be in Japanese with English subtitles.
