"Jurassic World: Dominion" continues to roar at the box office

I am the apex, hear me roar!

21 Jun - Despite the expectation over Disney and Pixar's new entry, "Lightyear", it was "Jurassic World: Dominion" that made it big at the box office.

"Lightyear" failed to surpass the dino movie to reach the number one spot, with "Jurassic World: Dominion" earning US$58.7 million last weekend, bringing the domestic tally of US$247.8 million and US$622.2 million globally.

This marks the movie as the seventh US film to cross the US$600 million mark in the pandemic era.

On the other hand, "Lightyear", which was released on 17 June, launched globally with US$85.6 million, with US$51 million coming from US theatres alone.

Nonetheless, it was considered a disappointing number, seeing that it was expected to top the USD chart with a US$70 - 85 million opening.

"Lightyear" failed to surpass "Jurassic World: Dominion" opening number.

"Lightyear" may not bring in as much as the other films released at the same time, seeing that it will not be shown in 14 countries over a same-sex scene that Disney has refused to cut out of the movie.
