11 Apr - Ana de Armas-starrer "Blonde" will be the first Netflix movie to be carrying an NC-17 rating. The upcoming film, which is a biopic about Marilyn Monroe, is based on the novel of the same name from author Joyce Carol Oates, and serves as more of a fictional depiction of the Hollywood icon than a re-telling. The film earned its NC-17 rating for "some sexual content", as revealed by the Motion Picture Association. Although the streamer has streamed NC-17 movies in the past, this is the first time that its own original production receives the said rating.
In a previous interview about the film, director Andrew Dominik addressed the NC-17 rating, saying, "It's a demanding movie. If the audience doesn't like it, that's the f*#!^ audience's problem. It's not running for public office. It's an NC-17 movie about Marilyn Monroe, it's kind of what you want, right? I want to go and see the NC-17 version of the Marilyn Monroe story." The NC-17 rating, or (No One Seventeen and Under Admitted), is the highest rating in Motion Picture Association of America film rating system assigned to films with content the MPA finds to be only suitable for ages 18 and older. Among other movies that received the said rating include "American Psycho", "Die Hard 2", "Kill Bill: Vol. 1", "The Wolf of Wall Street" and "American Pie".
