27 Jun – Despite the controversy surrounding its director's personal life and the criticism against the costuming of its characters, historical epic, "Mat Kilau Kebangkitan Pahlawan" successfully broke the RM1.0 million mark on its first day on 23 June 2022.

The film, which earned RM2.8 million on its second day, made a record as the first of its kind to cross that mark, and continued to soar at the box office during the weekend. At time of writing, the film has already grossed RM11.0 million (in four days)!

"We are able to compete with Hollywood movies. Mat Kilau did not only break box office records on its first day, but surpass all the other Hollywood films currently showing. Seeing the positive comments from those who watched it has really touched me," said director Syamsul Yusof.

Starring Datuk Adi Putra as the titular hero, the film also boasts a stunning cast that includes Wan Hanafi Su as Tok Gajah, Beto Kusyairy, Khir Rahman, Fattah Amin, and Johan As'ari among others.

The film revolves around the said Malay hero warrior and his band of brothers during the colonisation in the late 19th century, as they fight against the British rule and interference in their homeland Pahang.
