Director addresses backlash against Robert Pattinson's Batman

Many fans still can't go beyond Team Edward
Many fans still can't go beyond Team Edward

27 Jan – With DC's "The Batman" soon to be released in cinemas, there are still talks about the casting of Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader.

But for director Matt Reeves, the whole backlash is truly misplaced, seeing that the actor is no longer the young star who is most known for his "Twilight" movies.

Speaking about the issue recently, the filmmaker stated that it is normal for any backlash to happen when it comes to a beloved fictional character like Batman, of with whom fans have a deep connection.

"The people who were excited, I knew it was because they knew Rob's work post-Twilight. The people who weren't excited, I knew it was because they didn't know Rob's work post-Twilight," he said.

Pattinson's Batman is Kurt Cobain-inspired

Reeves stated that Pattinson was truly invested in the project, being a great fan of the DC comics himself.

"He'd heard that we were doing this and got excited about the idea that there was going to be another version of this character. And so, when I met him, and he read the script, we talked for a long, long time and I realised, 'This guy is a massive fan'," he said.

In a previous interview "The Batman" director revealed that Pattinson will be a different version of the dark knight, and even revealed that he was inspired by Kurt Cobain when he started imagining his version of Batman/Bruce Wayne.

The upcoming movie, which will be released on 3 March, co-stars Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Paul Dano as The Riddler, and Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman among others.

As Bruce Wayne, he sure doesn't look anything like Edward
