1 Mar – Celebrity couple Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively recently declared that they will match up every donation to the USA for United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (USA for UNHCR). Sharing the news on social media on 27 February, Reynolds posted, "In 48 hours, countless Ukrainians were forced to flee their homes to neighbouring countries. They need protection. @usaforunhcr is providing it. When you donate, we'll match it up to $1,000,000, creating DOUBLE the support." Lively confirmed this, writing, "[Ryan Reynolds] and I are doubling every dollar donated to @usaforunhcr up to $1,000,000."
USA for UNHCR recently announced that it is on the ground helping the 50,000 plus Ukrainians who had to flee their homes in less than 48 hours in providing life-saving aid, and also working with neighbouring countries to ensure protection for these families. This is not the first time that the couple made such gesture. Last year, the two of them matched donations up to US$1 million as part of a Democracy Building Challenge, splitting the fund between the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the NAACP's Legal Defense Fund.
