12 Jul – Malaysian audiences have to wait for two weeks after the 8 July international release of "Thor: Love and Thunder", before the movie opens on 21 July. However, that is not stopping the MCU film from being the latest box office powerhouse, with it making bank on its opening weekend. The movie was revealed to have made USD 143 million in the US on its opening weekend, placing it third behind "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" (USD 187.4 mil) and "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (USD 260 mil) when it comes to MCU movies released in the pandemic era. Although it is not the biggest opening number among all the Marvel films, it is still the biggest compared to its previous three movies.
On the other hand, the film also did well overseas with USD 159 million, bringing a total of USD 302 million. The movie, directed by Taika Waititi (who directed "Thor: Ragnarok"), reunites Chris Hemsworth's Thor with Natalie Portman's Jane Foster, who is now known as the Mighty Thor. It is noted that the film is competing with several other big titles including "Jurassic: World Dominion", "Elvis", "Minions: The Rise of Gru", and even "Doctor Strange".
