28 Jun – Tom Cruise continues to break his own box office record, now that his blockbuster film, "Top Gun: Maverick" was revealed to have crossed the USD 1 billion mark. The movie, which has been released for a month now, made about USD 521.7 million in the US and USD 484.7 million globally, knocking "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" away from its throne as the highest-grossing movie of the year. It is noted that the film was able to achieve this feat without any releases in China and Russia. The sequel, directed by Joseph Kosinski, has Cruise reprising his role as Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell, this time training a detachment of Top Gun graduates, including Rooster, the son of his own late friend Goose. The only movie that has surpassed the 1 billion mark in the pandemic era was last year's "Spider-Man: No Way Home".
