11 Apr – Will Smith recently stated that he accepts and respects the decision made by the Academy, following its decision regarding his previous behaviour at the 94th Academy Awards.

The succinct statement came after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Board of Governors announced that the actor will be banned from any Academy events or programmes.

The statement read as follows:

"The Board has decided, for a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programmes, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards.

This action we are taking today in response to Will Smith's behaviour is a step toward a larger goal of protecting the safety of our performers and guests, and restoring trust in the Academy. We also hope this can begin a time of healing and restoration for all involved and impacted."

In the same statement, the Academy expressed their deep gratitude to Chris Rock for maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances, as well as their hosts, nominees, presenters and winners for their poise and grace during telecast.

However, prior to the decision, the "King Richard" star pre-emptively resigned from AMPAS, saying that he wants to put focus back on those who deserve attention for their achievements.
