7 Jul – It was revealed that 10Star Cinemas will be opening three more locations in Sabah by the end of the year. Melewar Industrial Group Berhad Executive Chairman, Tunku Dato' Yaacob Khyra revealed the news to the Sabah Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun during a courtesy visit at the office of the Sabah Finance Ministry at Menara Kinabalu, stating that there will be three new cinemas now in Papar, Tawau, and Kota Marudu. Yaacob added that this would be one of their expansion plans in Sabah.
In relation to that, Masidi also emphasised that these new locations not only provide entertainment for the local residents, but also create employment and training opportunities in the cinema operation industry. Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of 10Star Cinemas Sdn Bhd, Onn Norshal Hamzah explained that with the addition of these three locations, 10Star Cinemas will become the largest cinema chain in Sabah with a total of six locations. It is noted that the 10Star Cinemas outlet in Kota Marudu, situated at the 1 Avenue Commercial Centre (1ACC) will begin operation in December 2023, while the one in Papar, specifically the Parklane City, is expected to be ready by October.
