17 Jan – Despite cinemagoers beginning to grow weary of biopics, Studio Canal revealed that the Amy Winehouse biopic is pushing through with Marisa Abela playing the embattled singer. The movie, "Back to Black", directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson ("Fifty Shades of Grey", "Nowhere Boy") is being backed by the company, along with Focus Features and Monumental Pictures, with "Nowhere Boy" scribe Matt Greenhalgh writing the script.
The project reportedly "will focus on Amy's extraordinary genius, creativity and honesty that infused everything she did. A journey that took her from the craziness and colour of 90's Camden High Street to global adoration - and back again, Back to Black crashes through the looking glass of celebrity to watch this journey from behind the mirror, to see what Amy saw, to feel what she felt." The movie has also released its first look of Abela as Winehouse, complete with her signature beehive, beauty mark and hoop earrings. British actress Marisa Abela is most known for playing the role of Yasmin Kara-Hanani in "Industry", though she also has acted alongside James Norton in "Rogue Agent".
