31 Jan – "Avatar: The Way of Water" has now made it to the fourth place in the list of the highest grossing movies of all time. The movie added another USD 15.7 million in US box office last week, and continued its claim on the top spot for the seventh weekend in a row. This means that globally, the movie has made USD2.116 billion at the box office, surpassing "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", which made USD 2.068 billion when it came out in 2015.
It was just last week that the film broke the USD 2 billion mark, becoming the sixth movie to do so. By how it is still going strong, the movie may be able to surpass the third place soon, which is currently held by 1997's "Titanic" - another James Cameron movie. "Titanic", which held the highest grossing movie of all-time record for 12 years, was overthrown by Cameron's own film, the 2009's "Avatar" in 2009 (USD 2.9 billion). The filmmaker now has three highest grossing movies in the top five of the list.
