31 Jul - Hong Kong and Malaysia co-produced film "Barbarian Invasion" is set to release in mainland China cinemas from 10 August. Having had its world premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival in 2021, the film is finally releasing in mainland China cinemas after two years.
Director and lead actress Tan Chui Mui also shared the good news on social media, and added, "I'll be going a road show in a few cities in China in August." "Barbarian Invasion" is a mixed-genre film that combines elements of action, drama and mystery. The film marks Tan's third feature film and co-stars Pete Teo, Bront Palarae, James Lee, and Zhiny Ooi.
Previously, the film has already been showcased at various international film festivals, including Shanghai, Beijing, Rotterdam, Vancouver, Singapore, and Seattle. It was honored with the "Jury Grand Prix" at the 24th Shanghai International Film Festival and Tan also won the "Best Actress Award" at the 32nd Malaysian Film Festival (FFM). Last year, the film was also released in Taiwan and Malaysia in July and November respectively, and has received positive reviews from the moviegoers. The upcoming road tour will cover 11 cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Zhengzhou, Xi'an, Wuhan, Chengdu, and Chongqing, allowing her to interact with local film enthusiasts.
