1 Aug - "Barbie" continues to make bank, as it earns an additional USD 131.5 million at the global box office in the second week, including USD 93 million from US alone. The movie, directed by Greta Gerwig of "Little Women" fame, has now amassed USD 774.5 million overall in less than two weeks, which experts said would enable it to join the billion-dollar club in less than a month's time.
If so, it will be the first movie directed by a woman to do so, surpassing Patty Jenkins, whose movie "Wonder Women" made USD 822 million at the box office.
At the same time, it will also mark the second film to do so this year following Universal's "The Super Mario Bros. Movie", which made USD 1.34 billion at the box office. On the other hand, its rival, Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" also did well, earning USD 400.4 million worldwide after 12 days. This marks Nolan's sixth-biggest film of all time.
