"Barbie" banned in Vietnam over nine-dash line map

5 Jul - It looks like there will be no "Barbie" in Vietnam as the country has banned yet another Hollywood project for a scene showing a map with China's claims to territory in the South China Sea.

The movie was originally slated to be released in the country on 21 July before the government banned it due to the map showing the U-shaped nine-dash line, where China claims vast areas including what Vietnam considers its continental shelf.

"The film review board watched the film and made the decision to ban the screening of this movie in Vietnam due to a violation regarding the 'nine-dash line'," said Vi Kien Thanh, Vietnam's Department of Cinema director.

There has been a number of movies that have been banned by Vietnam because of the nine-dash line, including DreamWorks' "Abominable", Australian spy drama, "Pine Gap", and Sony's "Unchartered.
