2 Feb – Bront Palarae believes that those who want to do well in the film industry should try their luck overseas. Speaking about Michelle Yeoh's Oscar nomination recently, the actor, who appeared at the "Harum Malam" event recently, stated he believes this is a better way for an actor to succeed. "As Malaysians, we are very proud of Michelle, but her success is not the success of our local film industry. This is because she built her career overseas. If she didn't go to Hong Kong, would she have the same success? We don't know," he said.
Bront said that several other actors from Malaysia found success outside the country, including Henry Golding, who went on to film several Hollywood movies after working as a TV presenter in Malaysia. As for Bront himself, while he didn't go far, the actor believes that he is lucky to be able to star in Indonesian movies, including the Joko Anwar hit, "Pengabdi Setan". "We are not lacking in talent. We may lack the interpretation of our talent," he added.
