31 Oct – Having been silent for two days following news of Matthew Perry's death, the cast of "Friends" finally spoke up to address the loss. In a joint-statement to People on 30 October, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer, expressed, "We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we're going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss."
"In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty's family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world," they added.
It is noted that fans of the show had been bombarding the actors' social media asking why there had been no tribute posts for Perry, who played Chandler Bing in the hit '90s sitcom. However, others defended the five, saying that they could be mourning in their own way as the six members have always been close to one another. Prior to the statement, Perry's other co-stars including Maggie Wheeler, who played Janice, and Paget Brewster, who guest starred as Kathy in season four of the show, took to social media to express their sadness over the loss. Before his untimely death, Perry released a memoir in 2022 titled, "Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing".
