19 Jan – It looks like Marvel and Disney are going to see a lot of moolah coming in, now that China is lifting its unofficial ban on its superhero movies. THR reported that both "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" and "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" will now be shown in China, with the former releasing on 7 February and the latter on the 17th of the same month. It is noted that "Wakanda Forever" was released in theatres worldwide back in November last year.
The two titles did well in China back in 2018, with "Ant-Man and the Wasp" earning over USD 121.2 million and "Black Panther" making USD 105 million. Marvel has not been able to release its movies in China in the past year, though no explanation was given by the country as to why it decided not to show these movies. Many speculated that it has something to do with Marvel hiring Chloe Zhao to direct "Eternals", the same filmmaker who angered China for her old interview in which she said that the country is "a place where there are lies everywhere".
