Disney's "Wish" loses box office race to "Napoleon"

28 Nov – 2023 does not seem to be a good year for Disney, as its newest animated feature, "Wish" did not do as well as it hoped in its opening week.

Despite Thanksgiving usually being the holiday where a Disney movie would profit the most, the film fell short of expectation with only USD 31.7 million at the US box office after five days of release instead of the projected 50 million.

While it was not as bad as last year's "Strange World", which made only USD 18 million in five days, the movie being Disney's centennial feature that should have been celebrated made the meagre number looked even worse.

"Wish" was also panned by the critics for being uninspiring
Meanwhile, internationally, the film made only USD 17.3 million, bringing its global tally to USD 49 million. The film now stands at number three in the box office list.

On the other hand, Ridley Scott's "Napoleon" surpassed "Wish" to make it to number two in the list with USD 78.8 million globally, while "The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" landed at the top in its second week, generating USD 200 million globally.
