9 May – It's a battle of two Pratts, or just one Chris Pratt, as his new movie, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" finally kicked his animated feature, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" off the top spot at the box office.

The superhero film, which is revealed to be the last James Gunn GOTG movie for Marvel Studios, amassed USD 114 million domestic opening, and made USD 168.1 million overseas, bringing a total global box office of USD 282 million in its first three days.

Despite the success, it was revealed that the domestic opening number is smaller compared to Vol. 2, which opened to USD 146.2 million back in 2017, which has now sparked yet again the debate as to whether fans are having superhero fatigue.

It is noted that both Marvel and DC didn't do well at the box office recently, with "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" failing to break USD 500 million, while "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" only made USD 133.4 million.

Meanwhile, the Chris Pratt-voice starrer "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" is now the fifth highest-grossing animated film of all time, as it surpassed "Toy Story 4" with USD 1.159 billion, and may soon surpass another Illumination feature, "Minions" to grab the fourth spot.
