"M3GAN" viral dance was not originally in script

11 Jan - Although the creepy "M3GAN" dance has now become a TikTok sensation, scribe Akela Cooper recently admitted that it was not a part of the original screenplay he wrote for the movie.

The screenwriter stated that the dance scene, which came near the end, was actually an idea injected in by director Gerard Johnstone.

"There are such absurd moments that Gerard added, which gives it that fun, camp feel," he said. "I didn't write M3gan dancing; I wrote her on a killing spree. When I saw it, I thought, 'This is so weird, but it works. That makes the death all the more uncomfortable.'

In another interview, Johnstone shared that he just put the dance in to see if anyone would say anything.

But it would not have become the viral sensation that it is today if not for M3GAN actress Amie Donald, who successfully performed the dance and utilising perfectly her dance background, and the choreography created by movement coach Jed Brophy.

"When she did it for the first time, we were all just like, it was spontaneous applause from the whole crew. It was just the most stunning display of skill," said co-star Allison Williams.
