9 Mar – Director Nik Amir Mustapha couldn't help but feel elated over the surprising reception towards his new movie, "Imaginur", which has already made RM3 million at the box office. The filmmaker, who spoke about the movie to BH recently, revealed that the extraordinary reception towards the Beto Kusyairy-starrer has prompted cinema operators to increase the number of screenings throughout the country. "At the Skim Wajib Tayang (Compulsory Screening Scheme) stage, the number of cinemas given is limited to 45 premises. After negotiating, we got 60. But right now, we received 13 more, making the total number of movie theatres showing "Imaginur" to be 73 in total," he said, adding that he is thankful for the support from cinema operators.
Speaking about the current box office takings, Nik Amir admitted that he was grateful as it has reached his original target. "Both my previous two films, "Kill" and "Terbaik Dari Langit" were only able to collect RM500,000. So, for this film, I only targeted RM1 million. As an independent filmmaker, I admit that I do not have enough budget to do massive publicity and can only hope for word of mouth," he expressed. Nik Amir said that seeing the positive response made him realise that audiences can really accept such a concept in a movie.
