2 Jun – Ryan Gosling seems to find the backlash over him playing Ken in the upcoming Greta Gerwig movie, "Barbie" quite absurd.

The actor, who sat down for an interview with GQ recently, was asked about the trending #NotMyKen that had gone viral online following his casting as the male counterpart of Barbie, with many saying that he is too old to play the character.

He said, "I would say, you know, if people don't want to play with my Ken, there are many other Kens to play with. It is funny...this kind of clutching-your-pearls idea of, like, #notmyken. Like you ever thought about Ken before this? But suddenly, it's like, 'No, we've cared about Ken this whole time.' No, you didn't. You never did. You never cared. Barbie never f***** with Ken. That's the point."

"If you ever really cared about Ken, you would know that nobody cared about Ken. So, your hypocrisy is exposed. This is why his story must be told," he added lightheartedly.

The upcoming movie sees Margot Robbie playing the role of Barbie, who sets off to the real world to find true happiness, with Ken in tow.

The movie also co-stars Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Simu Liu, Nicola Coughlan, and America Ferrera, the latter who plays a Mattel employee.

The movie will be released on 21 July.
