2 May – "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" has now joined the USD 1 billion box office club. The Illumination and Universal's animation based on the Nintendo video game added USD 68.3 million in its overseas market last week through Sunday, bringing an estimated total of a worldwide box office of USD 1.022 billion. The movie, which has Chris Pratt voicing Mario, is now the tenth animated film in history to cross the USD 1 billion mark. Other features that reached that height include "Toy Story" 3 and 4, both "Frozen" movies, as well as another Illumination animated feature, "Minions".
It now ranks as Universal's seventh biggest film of all time, surpassing that of "Jurassic World Dominion" and "Despicable Me". On the other hand, "Evil Dead Rise" has now made USD 86.5 million at the box office in its second weekend.
