26 Apr – "The Super Mario Bros Movie" continues to soar at the box office, as it hits the USD 800 million mark at the global box office. The movie, which is the latest offering from Illumination and Universal, has made USD 343.3 million at the US box office in its third weekend, and earned USD 70.7 million this week overseas. In total, the movie has now made USD 871.8 million.
It has now broken the record as the highest-grossing animated film in Universal history, besting "Minions: The Rise of Gru", which made USD 369.7 million previously. Meanwhile, in second place is Warner Bros. supernatural movie, "Evil Dead Rise", which made USD 40.3 million in its opening weekend. The Sam Raimi creation, which is helmed by Lee Croning, is the fifth "Evil Dead" movie since the 1981 cult horror.
