23 Aug –-Three controversial scenes will be cut from the upcoming movie, "Onpaku", before it is released in Malaysia. The news was shared by Bjarne Wong, who represented the distributor, saying that the decision was made to ensure that the movie will be fully approved for screening in Malaysia. "Aside from being a distributor, I am also a director. I am well aware of the censorship guidelines in Malaysia. So, I decided in advance which scenes should be edited before submitting the film to be evaluated," he said.
Among the scenes that were cut from the movie include one where an old woman sucking a woman's chest as part of a heretic ritual, as well as a violent display involving the one of the main characters. "The removal of the scene, however, will not detract from the storyline," he added. He also stated that he consulted with director Shugo Fujii before making the decision, and that the result of the movie releasing in the country is based on his decision and Fujii's approval. The movie, which tells the story of a woman becoming the sacrifice of a group of heretics, stars Josie Ho, Lawrence Chou, and Kazuya Takashi. It will be released in cinemas on 31 August.
