5 Dec – Kevin Feige has dismissed the idea that Tony Stark/Iron Man will be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In an interview with Vanity Fair recently, the Marvel Studios' chief stated that he would rather not retcon Iron Man's death just to bring back Robert Downey Jr. for publicity's sake.
"We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again," Feige says. "We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way."
The response came following rumours that Marvel is considering bringing back the original Avengers for a new movie, after feedbacks to the studio's recent superhero movies have been unflattering. It is noted that its most recent film, "The Marvels" is slowing down its box office run as the lowest-grossing MCU movie with only USD 197 million. Although it is expected to continue running through the New Year's, the movie will not be able to recoup the more than USD 220 million budget sans marketing.
