16 Jul - Did you know that we might have had a collaborative project between Michael Jackson and music maestro AR Rahman if not for the King of Pop's untimely death?

That was what AR Rahman recently revealed in an interview shared by Free Malaysia Today on YouTube, as the renowned composer admitted that he met Jackson in 2009 after his Oscar win.

Sharing that the "Thriller" singer did not respond to his request to meet at first, Rahman said that he received an email following his Oscar win for "Slumdog Millionaire" that Jackson wanted to see him.

He stated that Jackson spoke about world peace and his iconic dance moves, and praised him for his music score in "Slumdog Millionaire". The singer also asked him some technical questions and introduced Rahman to his kids.

"But I was jet-lagged because I'd been working day and night. I was waiting to return to India. It was unforgettable," he said.

Rahman said that he was working on the music for Rajinikanth's "Enthiran" when director Shankar asked him why he hadn't collaborated with the King of Pop.

"I said, 'Wow, will he do a Tamil song?' And I called him, and we spoke that week. He said, 'Whatever you say, we will do it together'. We met again, but unfortunately, he passed away in 2009. He was sick at the time," he said.

Michael Jackson passed away in June 2009 from cardiac arrest caused by a propofol and benzodiazepine overdose, less than three weeks before his concert residency was to begin in London. He was 50.
