30 Apr - After 30 years in the showbiz industry, Malaysia's legendary singer and actor Datuk Awie has made his directorial debut with action film, "Rebel: Berontak Untuk Berotak".

Talking about his experience in directing the movie when met at the film's gala premiere at GSC The Starling Mall, Petaling Jaya recently, Awie shared that it all started with a meeting with the late Ahmad Ibrahim or better known as Mat London.

"Mat London along with the producer came to see me to discuss about the movie, and I was quite surprised when they also offered me the director's seat. Honestly, I consider this a big responsibility. I was moved by the opportunity given and accepted it with an open heart."

"There is no doubt that the director's job is more difficult than the actor's. And I learned a lot. As this is my first action film, there may be some weaknesses and shortcomings, but I will improve should I get this kind of opportunity in the future," he said.

The movie "Rebel" tells the story of a feud between two men; Luka played by Ben Amir and Bono played by MK K-Clique, even though they are in the same organisation.

Awie invites people to watch the movie first before speculating, judging or giving negative comments about such organisations as highlighted in the movie. "I want to show the attitude of a 'rebel' or rebellion that exists in a person. No one is born evil, and there are reasons that make a person rebels, that's what I want to highlight in this film."

Made with a budget of almost RM1.0 million, this film is produced by Wau Productions Sdn Bhd and Rumah Produksi Merah Sdn Bhd.

"Rebel: Rebel for the Brain" will be shown in cinemas nationwide from 2 May 2024.
