11 Mar – It is a night of "second wins" as Emma Stone emerged as Best Actress at the 2024 Oscars.

The actress bested other contenders including frontrunner Lily Gladstone, who would have made history if she won as the first Native American to do so.

Stone won for her performance in "Poor Things", a Yorgos Lanthimos movie that tells the story of a woman who is recreated by a scientist to reenter the world as a grown woman with a brain of a toddler.

Even Stone seemed surprised by her win, as she expressed, "The women on this stage, you are all incredible, and the women in this category - Sandra, Annette, Carey, Lily-I share this with you. I'm in awe of you. It has been such an honour to do this all together and I hope we continue to do more together."

It is noted that the actress previously won Best Actress for her performance in "La La Land" in 2016.

Stone previously won Best Actress accolades for "Poor Things" at the BAFTA Awards, the Critics Choice Awards and the Golden Globes (for Musical or Comedy). Meanwhile, Gladstone won Best Actress recently at the Screen Actors Guild Awards as well as the Golden Globes for the Drama category.
