26 Jul – "Inside Out 2" has now surpassed "Frozen II" to be the highest grossing animated feature of all time. The movie, which is the sequel to the hit 2015 feature, grossed over USD 601 million in the US and USD 861.8 million internationally, bringing a global cume of USD 1.462 billion. It is noted that "Frozen II" topped the list with USD 1.451 billion when it was released in 2019. It is now in the second spot, followed by Illumination and Universal's "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" (USD 1.361 billion), the first "Frozen" movie (USD 1.274 billion), and "Toy Story 4" (USD 1.072 billion). At the same time, "Inside Out 2" has also surpassed last year's biggest movie "Barbie" (USD 1.446 billion), kicking it off from number 13 of the highest grossing film of all time.
It is noted that the film has reached this success despite having been released in Japan. The original animated feature, which has Amy Poehler voicing the role of Joy alongside other cast members that include Mindy Kaling, Bill Hader (both were replaced in the sequel), made USD 858.8 million when it was released nine years ago.
