"Mufasa: The Lion King" and "Sonic 3" battle for Christmas box office crown

"Lion King" prequel edges out with USD 63.8 milliom domestic haul

31 Dec - It's a win for Paramount's "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" and Disney's "Mufasa: The Lion King", as it both did very well at the box office during the holidays.

Despite its slow start, "Mufasa: The Lion King" began to gain traction during the Christmas week, accumulating USD 63.8 million, besting "Sonic 3" with a small margin while the latter made USD 60.4 million.

It also made USD 77.1 million internationally, bringing a global cume of USD 328 million.

"Sonic 3" made USD 74 million internationally

Meanwhile, the SEGA adaptation amassed USD 74 million from 52 markets, bringing a global tally of USD 211.5 million.

On the other hand, another Disney entry, "Moana 2" has made a total of USD 882.5 million at the global box office since its release on 27 November.

"Moana 2" will soon break the USD 900 million mark
