29 Jul - First, he was the superhero that everybody wanted, and now he will return as the supervillain that Marvel needs. Robert Downey Jr. surprised many recently when he appeared at the San Diego Comic-Con clad in all green, as Marvel Studios announced that the "Iron Man" star will make his Marvel comeback as the classic villain, Doctor Doom for "Avengers: Doomsday". "New mask, same task," said RDJ to excited fans.
The whole unveiling ceremony was theatrical, with the actor, wearing his mask, came on stage with two dozen men in robes, while the Russo Brothers, who will be helming the said film, revealed that they needed the greatest actor in the world to play the role. "As proof of the unimaginable possibilities of the Marvel Universe, we give you the one person who could play Victor von Doom..." said Joe Russo, as RDJ stepped forward and unmasked himself.
It is noted that there had been rumours about one of the original Avengers stars coming back to the MCU, with many speculating that it could be either Chris Evans or RDJ. His casting came more than a year after Jonathan Majors, who was originally to be the main supervillain for the Avengers in the originally titled, "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty" project, was found guilty of harassment and assault of former girlfriend.
