The 1999 movie, directed by Stephen Sommers, follows adventurer and treasure hunter Rick O'Connell as he travels to the City of the Dead, with Evelyn Carnahan and her older brother Jonathan, where they accidentally awaken Imhotep, a cursed high priest with supernatural powers.

The movie spawned two more sequels, before it was rebooted in 2017 starring Tom Cruise. However, the new film was panned by both critics and the public.
