"Close Ur Kopitiam" brews up RM12.7 million at the box office

"Close Ur Kopitiam" proves local storytelling can capture national imagination
6 Mar - After more than a month in cinemas, the team of "Close Ur Kopitiam" announced that they have amassed RM12.7 million at the box office, becoming the third highest grossing Chinese film in Malaysia.

Celebrating the milestone in a recent banquet on 4 March, producer Mark Lee stated that the road ahead will be even more challenging and that they must remain humble and low-key in order to reach another peak.

It is noted that 2014's "The Journey" still maintains the record as the highest grossing Chinese-Malaysian movie with RM17.17 million.

Dissy also took the opportunity to announce that they will be launching a new movie for Chinese New Year 2026 to be directed and stars Jaspers Lai.

However, the film has actually been prepared as early as two years ago.

"In fact, when we were filming 'Close Ur Kopitiam', we were already planning this film, but because the budget of this film would be higher, we decided to film 'Close Ur Kopitiam' first," the team said.

The next movie, currently titled, "All the Way North" will also be a road movie, which will be filmed from the southernmost to the northernmost part of Malaysia.
