9 Sep - It's another win for Warner Bros, after "The Conjuring: Last Rites" has made a lot of money on its opening weekend.

The horror film has topped the chart in the US with USD 83 million debut, which makes it the best opening in the history of the franchise, as well as the third biggest horror opening of all time, behind "It" and "It: Chapter Two".

It has also made USD 104 million overseas, bringing a total of USD 187 million globally, a great start for the film which was made under a budget of USD 55 million.

It also marks the seventh consecutive film from Warner Bros. to open over USD 40 million this year, following the likes of movies such as "Weapons", "Superman", "F1", "Final Destination: Bloodlines", "Sinners" and "A Minecraft Movie".

"The Conjuring: Last Rites" sees the return of Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as real-life paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed Warren and is based on the Warren's investigation of the Smurl haunting in Pennsylvania.
