16 Jun - Dakota Johnson has harsh-but-true words for Hollywood when she said that the industry is in a mess. Speaking to Sean Evans of the hit show, "Hot Ones" recently, the actress stated that Hollywood is filled with executives who "know nothing about movies" making important creative decisions.
Acknowledging that Hollywood keeps bringing back the same franchises, she continued, "When something does well, studios want to keep that going so they remake the same things, but humans don't want that. They want fresh, they want to feel new things, experience new things, see new things, so I don't know, I guess it's all just a bit of a mess right now, isn't it?" Hollywood has been in a remake and sequel frenzy for the past decade, especially following the COVID-19 pandemic, from Disney producing live-action remakes of their hit animated features, to studios bringing back popular 80s and 90s shows, to studios making multiple comic and book adaptations.
This year alone, Hollywood has come out with live-action "How to Train Your Dragon", "Lilo & Stitch" and "Snow White", remaking "The Running Man", "The Wedding Banquet", "Harry Potter", "I Know What You Did Last Summer", creating sequels and spinoffs like "Ballerina" and "Freakier Friday", and bringing back old favourites like "The Naked Gun". Pixar, which was previously known for its original stories, are now working on sequels, "Toy Story 5", "Incredibles 3" and "Coco 2".
