"The Fantastic Four: First Steps" stays atop despite big drop

"The Fantastic Four" maintains box office leadership
5 Aug - Marvel's "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" continues its reign at the box office, though it is now in precarious position.

The film, which opened to USD 117.6 million at the US box office and USD 218 million globally last week, managed to earn another USD 40 million domestically. However, the more than 60 percent drop in ticket sales from weekend one to two seems to indicate there is a change in viewing trends.

However, as of now, the film has made USD 368 million globally, and is expected to surpass the disappointing box office numbers of this year's Marvel entries, "Captain America: Brave New World" (USD 415 million globally) and "Thunderbolts" (USD 382 million globally).

Meanwhile, "Superman" has now gone down to fourth place with an addition of USD 13.9 million at the box office, amassing USD 551.2 million globally, while "Jurassic World Rebirth" made USD 766 million in its fifth weekend.
