23 Apr - The Malaysian government through FINAS will sponsor the opening of Employees Provident Fund (EPF) i-Saraan accounts for 1,000 local entertainment industry players. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said this initiative was introduced through the PELINDUNG programme, which provides a social safety net to marginalised industry workers including freelance crews and behind-the-scenes workers. "Through strategic collaboration with the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) and EPF, artistes can now apply for the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (Act 789) as well as the EPF i-Saraan, without age limits, a long-term investment for their future and welfare," he said.
