16 Jul - HBO has officially kicked off production on its highly anticipated Harry Potter television adaptation, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the beloved wizarding world.

HBO announced the milestone on 14 July with the first glimpse of young actor Dominic McLaughlin stepping into the iconic role of Harry Potter.

The debut photo showcased him in full Hogwarts regalia, sporting the character's signature round glasses, lightning bolt scar, and school uniform while holding a clapperboard from director Mark Mylod. "First-years, step forward. The HBO Original Harry Potter series is now in production," the network captioned the announcement.

McLaughlin will be joined by fellow young actors Arabella Stanton as the brilliant Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as the loyal Ron Weasley, bringing the famous trio to life for a new generation of viewers.

An impressive cast of established actors will be filling in the adult roles. John Lithgow will take on the wise Professor Albus Dumbledore, while Janet McTear steps into the stern but caring shoes of Professor Minerva McGonagall. Paapa Essiedu will portray the complex Professor Severus Snape, and Nick Frost has been cast as the gentle giant Rubeus Hagrid.

HBO followed up the Harry Potter reveal with another character introduction on 15 July, sharing the first look at Nick Frost in his full Hagrid costume. The British actor appeared with the character's trademark bushy beard and dishevelled appearance, staying true to the beloved gamekeeper's iconic look previously brought to life by the late Robbie Coltrane.

"Everyone ready? 'ere we go! Nick Frost has walked his first day in the big boots of Hagrid on the set of the new HBO Original Harry Potter series," HBO announced of the beloved character who serves as both Hogwarts' gamekeeper and a loyal friend to Harry and his friends.

The supporting cast includes notable names such as Katherine Parkinson from "IT Crowd" as Molly Weasley, "Doctor Foster" actor Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge, and "Emma" star Johnny Flynn as the menacing Lucius Malfoy. New additions to the wizarding world include Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser as the wandmaker Garrick Ollivander.

The fresh adaptation will bring J.K. Rowling's magical world back to screens with a new cast.
